What is this course about?

This qualification reflects individuals aiming to prepare for the world of dance. It is a demanding course extending individual learners in a variety of genres in both theoretical and practical applications. Learners are to apply critical thinking and develop independent choreographic approaches to extend themselves as artists. This course is for advanced dancers and designed for extension and preparation for the industry. This is an suited to secondary school students, school leavers or students who will study a full time qualification as an alternative to traditional schooling. Secondary students (still at school) will receive credits to their WACE score.

What is the course duration?

This course can be studied on a part time or full time option. This flexible option are available to suit your needs and life circumstances. The course can studied over two years- with two days of tuition per year or one year with four days of tuition. This course is run over the four school terms. There are extra hours in performance and rehearsal times where necessary. Secondary school students will need permission for two day school release over Year 11 and Year 12 and is suitable for General Pathway students.

Is there homework in the course?

With any nationally recognised qualification there are both theoretical and practical components to complete. The students participate in guided theory classes to specifically teach the theory components within the course. The theory mentoring does limit the amount of homework however as this is a AQF4 level qualification students are expected to complete tasks out of class time. Each assessment is supported by the staff in our tailored classroom platform.

What subjects are in the qualification?

Like any qualifications there are units to complete for certification. As the Certificate IV is the development and extension of advanced skills. The subjects include several classes with the following components: Choreography, Industry, performance, conditioning [stretch and strength], jazz, classical hip hop, tap, lyrical, musical theatre and acrobatic techniques. You are not expected to be an expert in each subject, the course is to extend you in the subjects you excel and expose and improve subjects that you need further training. An advanced background and strong technical foundation is expected.

With a performing arts qualifications requiring private payment Emergent Academy offers flexible payment plans to allow for convenient payments throughout the study year. Financial hardship and Talent based scholarships are available on application.
