What is this course about?
This qualification is a preparatory qualification that allows learners to develop basic technical skills and knowledge to prepare for work in the live performance industry and prepare the learner for further learning and qualifications. Learners will gain experience in anatomy, safe dance practice and dance training in a variety of disciplines. A course that is taught by industry professionals with a variety of performance opportunities it is a perfect certificate for secondary students in Years 9-10 to complete. Units can also be used to gain credits for WACE. All SCSA dates are met and communication with the school and VET coordinator is organised by Emergent Academy.
Is there homework in the course?
With any nationally recognised qualification there are both theoretical and practical components to complete. The students participate in guided theory classes to specifically teach the theory components within the course. The theory mentoring limits the amount of homework however there may be occasion when students need to complete work at home. Each assessment is supported by the staff in our tailored classroom platform.
What is the course duration?
This course is run over a one year period through school terms. The course is one contact day per week and two logged hours at your own dance school or high school. There are extra hours in performance and rehearsal times as needed. If you don’t attend a dance school- don’t worry we have a partner school you can use to log hours.
What subjects are in the qualification?
Like any qualifications there are units to complete for certification. The certificate II is a foundation certificate offering tuition in a range of subjects. This includes Industry, performance, conditioning [stretch and strength], jazz, classical, hip hop, and lyrical techniques. You are not expected to be an advanced in any discipline- the course is developed specifically to extend you in the subjects you excel and expose and improve subjects that you need further training.
How do I apply?
Applications are designed to be straightforward and low pressure. We want potential students to be as comfortable in applying as they will be in training. Applications are online with a further phone or in person interview as needed.

With a performing arts qualifications requiring private payment Emergent Academy offers flexible payment plans to allow for convenient payments throughout the study year. Financial hardship and Talent based scholarships are available on application.
