CUA20220 CERTIFICATE II IN CREATIVE INDUSTRIES (Musical Theatre Major)

This course introduces learners to the foundations of performance and musical theatre, helping them build confidence, develop technical skills, and explore their creativity. Students learn through a mix of guided classes and practical performance opportunities, building skills in acting, singing, and dance while beginning to understand how these areas connect in musical theatre.

Designed for younger performers and early secondary students, this qualification provides an entry pathway into future training while contributing units toward the WACE score. It’s the perfect stepping stone for learners who are ready to grow as performers and start their journey toward becoming well-rounded Triple Threat artists.

This qualification is offered in partnership with ATOD: 31624

We know secondary school students need training that fits around their studies. That’s why this course is designed to run one day a week (Fridays) over one year.

Training takes place across the four school terms, with additional rehearsal and performance hours included to give students real-world industry experience.

Secondary School Students can study this qualification whilst in Year 7-10 in a general pathway.

Training occurs on a Friday over 1 year.

Secondary students will also earn credits toward their WACE score, with all SCSA dates met and direct communication maintained between Emergent Academy, schools, and VET coordinators if the student is in upper secondary school.

Like any qualification, the Certificate II includes a range of units that must be completed for certification.

As this is an introductory qualification the subject matter prepares learners for further study with development across the disciplines of performing arts.

Subjects cover key areas such as:

  • Work Readiness and Time Management
  • Working Collaboratively
  • Aural Skills
  • Vocal Skills- both as a soloist and ensemble member
  • Industry knowledge
  • Physical Conditioning
  • Dance Genres
  • Acting and Performance Skills

You don’t need to be experienced in every subject. This course is designed to build on your strengths while also extending you in areas where you need further development—helping you grow as a musical theatre performer

As with all nationally recognised qualifications, this course includes both practical and theory components. Students take part in guided theory classes, where trainers clearly explain the knowledge required for each unit and provide step-by-step support.

At AQF Level 2, most work is completed in class with the trainer’s help, and only a very small amount of independent work may be needed at home.

All assessments are designed to be simple, supported, and practical, with learners guided every step of the way through our classroom platform.
