CUA50220 DIPLOMA IN MUSICAL THEATRE
This qualification is an elite program designed to extend and refine triple threat performers, preparing them for the live performance industry. Learners will undertake individual development tasks alongside advanced training in performance skills.
Both highly technical and theoretical, the course is intended for pre-professional performers who are ready to push their artistry to the next level. It is best suited to school leavers or students exiting school early to pursue a full-time qualification in line with government requirements.
Delivered at an advanced standard, this course requires participants to bring with them a refined technical background and prior experience across singing, acting, and dance.
This course offers a full-time study option designed to give learners the time and focus needed to truly grow as performers. The program runs for one year (four terms), with breaks scheduled in line with school holidays.
Training takes place across four days per week, with timetables tailored to the size and needs of each cohort. This structure allows students to immerse themselves in their craft while still maintaining balance and time for rest.
As with all nationally recognised qualifications, this course is made up of units that build both technical ability and industry readiness. Training covers a wide range of subjects, including:
- Acting – monologue, scene work, improvisation, and scene-to-song
- Vocal – advanced technical skills, performance practice, and aural development
- Dance – musical theatre dance genres and ensemble performance styles
- Industry & Career – sustainability, professionalism, and employability skills
- Conditioning & Wellbeing – stretch, strength, and nutrition
- Stagecraft – make-up, performance, rehearsal, and audition techniques
This all-round training is designed to give students the skills and confidence they need to step into the industry as versatile and employable performers.
Students take part in dedicated theory classes that directly support the practical elements of the course. As this is an AQF Level 5 qualification, learners are expected to complete some homework and project work outside of class.
The academic component includes:
- Critical thinking and reflection
- Short written responses
- Research projects
These tasks are designed to deepen understanding and help students connect theory with practice, building the professional mindset needed for the industry.
